In March, Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Australia facilitated the inaugural Pacific Showcase at the Impact Investment Summit Asia Pacific, held on 25–26 March at the International Convention Centre Sydney. Over two days, the Summit drew more than 800 attendees — institutional investors, advisors, foundations, family offices and senior government decision-makers focused on delivering strong financial returns alongside positive social and environmental impact across the Asia–Pacific.
For the Pacific, the moment marked something new. While Pacific enterprises have long competed for global capital, never before had they been brought together in a single, dedicated forum of this scale, with direct access to investors actively deploying capital across the region.
Tim Martin, PTI Australia's Trade Commissioner, said the Showcase reflected the region's growing commercial momentum.
"The Pacific is generating a growing pipeline of credible, investment-ready ventures," Mr Martin said. "Bringing these enterprises together in a dedicated showcase creates a practical pathway for investors to explore partnerships that can scale both operations and impact — and for Pacific businesses to stand on a global stage as the serious commercial propositions they are."
The six organisations selected to present reflected the breadth and ambition of the Pacific private sector, with operations spanning Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
In financial inclusion, Good Return expands access to finance for women-led enterprises across the Asia–Pacific, working through local financial institutions in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Alongside it, South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) Microfinance Network stands as the Pacific's largest microfinance institution, having disbursed more than USD 340 million to over 110,000 women micro-entrepreneurs across Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu over more than two decades.
In community and social impact, The Drua Foundation harnesses the national reach of the Fijian Drua rugby platform to deliver outcomes across youth development, health, education and community wellbeing.
In climate and sustainability, Waste Recyclers Fiji is Fiji's largest and longest-operating multi-stream recycling enterprise, advancing circular economy practices and tackling plastic pollution for more than 30 years. Green Finance Centre PNG, anchored in government policy and supported by the Bank of Papua New Guinea, mobilises capital for climate-resilient infrastructure and green growth. And FireTracking, a Pacific-founded climate technology company, delivers AI-powered early wildfire detection, already monitoring more than one million hectares across France and New Caledonia.
Participating organisations reflected positively on the experience. Good Return's CEO Shane Nichols described the opportunity to pitch within the exhibition space as the highlight of the Summit. Drua Foundation Managing Director Melissa Natawake shared a similar view.
"Grateful to speak and represent the region," Ms Natawake said, adding a call for greater Pacific and social impact representation at future summits.
PTI Australia's presence at the Summit also served as a focal point for a broader Pacific contingent. Governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, Mrs Elizabeth Genia, and Assistant Governor George Awap attended alongside representatives from Pacific Legal Network, the Unit Trust of Samoa and Fiji Investment Corporation Limited — a gathering that speaks to the increasing presence of Pacific institutions in global impact investment markets.
For PTI Australia, the Showcase marks a milestone in its ongoing work to connect Pacific enterprises with international capital, and signals the shape of things to come as Pacific businesses take a more visible role on the global investment stage.
