The business delegation was in New Zealand as part of a trade mission, which included the one-day Annual Conference 2025, jointly hosted by the Fiji New Zealand Business Council and the New Zealand Fiji Business Council, at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland.
At the PTI NZ office, and in his address to the conference, Hon. Kamikamica spoke of the benefits of events like this, the emerging market opportunities it provides, and the important role played by agencies like PTI NZ.
Hon. Kamikamica also spoke about the NZ$2 billion trade target set by both countries, which his ministry is actively pursuing through agri-trade on the back of ambitious plans for foreign investments in the agriculture and tourism sectors.
Speaking to the roundtable, Permanent Secretary for Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs and Communications, Shaheen Ali, said, “Platforms like this provide a useful and meaningful way to engage with in-country agencies such as PTI NZ, who are here to help us in the New Zealand market.”
Presentations at the PTI NZ roundtable included UniServices, the University of Auckland’s business arm dedicated to commercialising and applying leading-edge research from the university. UniServices’ Director of Business Development Pacific, Pedro van der Ent, shared insights about UniServices programs, especially those relating to Pacific Island Countries, including with the University of Fiji.
KlipTank, a New Zealand manufacturer of water, effluent and industrial liquid storage solutions, presented their product range and highlighted their custom-made water and sewage tanks, which could be made available to Fiji. The company is an example of New Zealand’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities in areas that can bring practical solutions - in Fiji’s case, for irrigation purposes on farms.
Shahban Ali Hassan, Business Development Support at PTI NZ, and Rohan Parekh, PTI NZ’s Investment Facilitation Manager, presented on the supportive work PTI NZ is doing in these areas, while Trade Commissioner Glynis Miller wrapped up and took questions from the floor. She thanked the Fiji Trade and Investment Commission, through Director of Trade Deepika Singh, for allowing PTI NZ to host the roundtable.
While at the PTI NZ office, three video interviews were conducted with pivotal delegates from Fiji:
- Hon Manoa Kamikamica
- Deepika Singh, Director, Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Fiji
- Rosinimaleya Vulivakarua, Senior Immigration Officer, Ministry of Immigration, Fiji
