“HOTELEX helps open up new opportunities for Pacific Island speciality agricultural products in the Chinese market, significantly enhancing their market recognition and commercial value.” Yolanda Jiang, Head of Exports of PTI China said.

Following on from our successful appearance at HOTELEX last year, PTI China once again attended this global hotel and catering industry event in Shanghai. We were delighted to be able to host the showcase for three coffee and cocoa brands and a mineral water brand.

Haus win and WR Carpenter from Papua New Guinea, Martin & Brothers Enterprises from the Solomon Islands, and Fitsui from Fiji benefited greatly from the opportunity to promote their brand value and product origin stories to an estimated 300,000 HOTELEX attendees

One of PTI China’s co-exhibitors, PNG coffee brand Haus win, provided a coffee cupping demonstration for a large audience of interested coffee industry professionals.

HOTELEX Shanghai presents an ideal opportunity for PTI China to feature two of our key industries in the Pacific Islands – coffee and cocoa, said PTI China Trade Commissioner, Mona Mato.

“It’s a platform that not only leverages their products at world roasters and fine chocolate competitions, but also tells their unique stories in a bid to connect with buyers and position them alongside global brands in China.”

However, he cautioned that in order to be competitive, Pacific exporters also need to be well prepared for the market, with high-quality products, consistent supply and market access planning.

PTI China has supported a number of Pacific coffee brands to export to China, including one of the HOTELEX exhibitors, PNG’s Haus win. Our active coordination with China Customs and the relevant PNG government departments has helped to progress the relevant trade work.

With this experience, we have also been able to provide strong support for the entry of Solomon Islands’ agricultural products into the Chinese market. This is expected to further promote agricultural trade cooperation between China and Solomon Islands to a new level. We are particularly encouraged to note that Solomon Islands’ coffee and cocoa beans were recently granted import access to the Chinese market.

Joyce Bundu, Counsellor of the Papua New Guinea Embassy in China, spoke highly of PTI China’s efforts to support PNG coffee and cocoa exporters to China.

“I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Pacific Trade and Investment Office and the Trade Commissioner, Mr Mona Mato, for the opportunity to witness the growing collaboration between PNG coffee exporters and our valued partners at the Shanghai HOTELEX and Coffee Trade Expo.”

“It underscores the importance of collaboration between government agencies, trade bodies and private sector stakeholders. The expo offers a fresh perspective on the Chinese market for PNG coffee. The strong interest in our unique, high-quality beans highlights exciting opportunities for growth, partnerships and deeper market penetration. As we work together to advance trade and investment, events like this serve as a vital platform for engagement, knowledge sharing, and sharing new opportunities that will benefit our economies and communities.”

Held over four days in late March and early April, this was the 33rd HOTELEX event. At previous editions of the expo, PTI China has helped showcase a range of Pacific brands, supporting them to achieve exposure to millions of consumers, potential buyers and industry professionals.
