China has considerable demand for fisheries products, but exporters approaching the market must meet very strict market access regulations and standards, and authorities take every precaution to ensure all requirements are met. The specific regulations and compliance standards for importing seafood products is always a hurdle that Pacific Island seafood exporters must face to when entering the Chinese market. Understanding and complying with the requirements can be a complex and time-consuming process.
“Navigating the complex regulatory landscape is crucial for exporters targeting China and we must be on top of these regulations,” said Yolanda Jiang, Export Manager of PTI China.
The PTI China team continues to assist export enterprises to ensure seafood products comply with Chinese import regulations, covering labelling, packaging, quality control and food safety standards.
In addition, most of the procedures now tend to operate online, which means the registration and approval procedures have become more convenient and efficient. To further extend this advantage, PTI China has provided fisheries entities with comprehensive guidelines and extensive training on the operation of China Customs’ online system.
The 2023 China–Pacific Island Countries Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers Forum was recently held in Jiangsu Province of China. Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of Pacific Island countries and envoys to China attended the meeting. With the theme of “Building a Comprehensive Cooperation Platform for Agriculture and Fishery between China and Pacific Island Countries in the New Era”, the meeting was of great significance to both the Pacific and China, to better ensure food security, promote marine protection and sustainable use.
In attending the forum, Yolanda says that “The forum is a platform that affords us the opportunity to develop our future work plans and activities in and around fisheries policies and the offerings and support by the Chinese government as highlighted during the sessions.”
“We have facilitated more than 100 fisheries entities to achieve market access over the last three years,” Yolanda said. “The fisheries’ cooperation between China and the Pacific Island Countries will certainly become closer and more convenient as China’s borders gradually reopen.” This is a good opportunity to improve the mechanism of fisheries cooperation, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in fisheries science and technology between the Pacific and China.”
