Building on a successful 2024, PTI China looks ahead to 2025 with renewed determination to connect Pacific Island businesses with China and the Asian market in a bid to grow and foster sustainable, economic development across the region.
Reflecting on 2024, PTI China’s involvement in high-end expos like HOTELEX Shanghai, China International Import Expo (CIIE), COSMOPROF ASIA in Hong Kong, and the China High-quality Consumption Exhibition (CHQCE) in Macau, proved instrumental in elevating the visibility of Pacific Island products. These platforms provided unparalleled opportunities for businesses to engage with global audiences and secure impactful partnerships.
An outstanding achievement for us is Nama Fiji reaching a milestone by expanding its global distribution network through a partnership in Dubai. This achievement was a result of Nama Fiji’s presence at the PTI China-led Pacific showcase at COSMOPROF ASIA 2024. Debra Sadranu, Director and Founder of Nama Fiji, acknowledged with appreciation the support of PTI China, stating that, “these trade shows are invaluable for expanding export markets and driving economic growth in the Pacific.” The brand’s innovative use of sustainably harvested nama (sea grapes) and thalassotherapy (the use of seawater as a therapy) continues to attract global acclaim, exemplifying the unique appeal of Fiji-made products.
PTI China also strengthened its collaboration with stakeholders from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Nauru to enhance engagement with the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC) through the Market Access & Import Protocol Program. This program laid a solid foundation for streamlining market access processes, preparing these Pacific nations for greater export readiness. PTI China will continue advancing the program, working closely with Chinese customs authorities, to unlock new export opportunities for Pacific Island businesses.
On the investment front, 2024 marked a significant achievement for PTI China facilitating its largest annual investment outcome of A$8,304,230. PTI China’s service offering through its Investment Projects Support Program provided support to a hydropower energy initiative in Papua New Guinea and an organic farming project in Fiji. Both were key investment facilitation services, underscoring PTI China’s commitment to sustainable and impactful investment across the Pacific.
The Investment Projects Support Program will continue focusing on identifying and promoting initiatives aligned with the Pacific’s sustainable development goals. By driving investments into sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, and innovation, PTI China aims to catalyse long-term growth.
Looking ahead, PTI China is set to build on this momentum in 2025. Participation in key trade and investment events will remain a cornerstone of the strategy, including:
- HOTELEX 2025, a premier stage for Pacific Island food and beverage products, in Shanghai.
China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair 2025, fostering partnerships for Pacific SMEs, in Guangzhou.
2025 Shanghai International Carbon Offset Technology Expo, highlighting sustainability and renewable energy initiatives from the Pacific. - COSMOPROF ASIA 2025, spotlighting Pacific beauty and wellness innovations, in Hong Kong.
- Belt and Road Summit 2025, PTI China’s annual investment promotional event that connects Pacific businesses with global investors, in Hong Kong.
As it navigates 2025, PTI China will ensure that it delivers services that will create impact and empower Pacific Island businesses and communities.
