PIF, Suva, 19th Feb, 2024 — The Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Network Independent Advisory Board convened its 6th virtual meeting today, chaired by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General, Henry Puna.

Discussions centred around key agenda items highlighting the achievements of the PTI Network in 2023, annual implementation plans of the various offices for trade and investment in the Pacific region, organizational development within the Pacific Islands Forum, and strategies for network expansion.

Secretary General Puna reiterated the pivotal role of the PTI Independent Advisory Board in aligning network efforts with the priorities of regional leaders and the broader Pacific community, emphasizing the importance of grassroots implementation.

“The accomplishments of the PTI Network over the past year are truly commendable,” said Secretary General Puna, citing the assistance provided to over 1,300 businesses across the Forum Island Countries. He noted the facilitation of over FJD$156 million in exports and FJD$33 million in investments, underscoring the tangible impact of collective efforts.

In addressing the challenges posed by current funding modalities, the Independent Advisory Board explored new possibilities to address current and emerging challenges, while emphasizing the significance of collective action.

Continuing its strategic oversight and guidance role, the Independent Advisory Board commits to ensuring that the economic interests of the Pacific remain a top priority in decision-making processes within the Pacific Islands Forum.

The Board emphasized the importance of further collaboration with the private sector, trade commissions, and other partnering organizations was emphasized, aiming to strengthen the foundation of the PTI network.

Members of the PTI Network Independent Advisory Board include Michelle Macdonald (Samoa), Vani Nades (Papua New Guinea), Fletcher Melvin (Cook Islands), and Ian Clarke (Australia).

The PTI Board reaffirms its commitment to driving initiatives that stimulate economic growth and development across the Pacific, with a vision of prosperity for all.
